The reasons for such failure, I am arguing, lies in our choice of lens: that is, in the assumptions we make about crime and justice.
These assumptions, which govern our responses to wrongdoing, are in fact out of step with the experience of crime. Furthermore, they are out of step with our Christian roots and even with much of our own history in the West.
