RJ Online Blog (RJOB)

One of the new features we are adding is a blog called RJOB, reminding us that it is “our job” to develop, expand, evaluate and strengthen restorative justice theory and practice. Its purpose will be to provide timely information about restorative justice news and developments around the world, together with commentary concerning the significance or meaning of that information as it relates to the use and expansion of restorative justice.

RJOB will replace the monthly edition that makes up most of the home page of the current site. We think this will increase the value of the site to readers by providing much more timely content provided by a group of engaging international “correspondents” on various dimensions of restorative justice. It will offer a wide range of perspectives and information so that the regular reader is well-informed about restorative justice, the movement behind it, and the obstacles to its implementation.

The following are examples of topics that would fall within the scope of RJOB:

  1. RJ theory, vision, values, programmes, practices, public policies and research.
  2. Applications of RJ in response to crime and other violations of rules, policies, traditions and so forth.
  3. Its use in response to crimes ranging from those that are personal to those resulting from state-sponsored activities.
  4. How RJ is helping reform the criminal justice system, supplement it, replace all or part of it, and build responses independent of the criminal justice system.
  5. Gaps and shortfalls as well as successes in the applications of restorative justice in the restorative justice field’s development.

The following are examples of the kind of content that will appear in RJOB.

  1. Short articles offering an opinion, insight, experience, question, etc.
  2. Short article alerting the reader to developments or newsworthy events
  3. An article by someone else that deserves attention, with commentary.
  4. Videos or slideshows

Readers will have the opportunity to comment on blog entries.
