The new face of county justice

Dec 17, 2014

from the article in Mille Lacs Messenger:

Walsh has experience as an attorney in private practice and said this about his upcoming venture of being the new Mille Lacs County Attorney:

“I am honored and humbled to be chosen as your next county attorney. Over the past year, I have made a personal effort to show that I favor leadership by example over mere words and am willing to work hard to earn your trust. That will continue as I begin to do the hard work of representing the people of Mille Lacs County. This office belongs to the people, and I will do everything in my power to protect our residents and rebuild our community when it has been harmed.”

Walsh has said his first priority is always to protect the community from serious and violent crime. “There will be no tolerance for violent crime and serious felonies in Mille Lacs County,” Walsh said.

Walsh said the goal is to cut down on serious and violent crime in the future by “being aggressive when such crimes are committed to reduce the occurrence of these crimes in the future.”

As for less serious crimes, Walsh said the county attorney’s office needs to do a better job reintegrating offenders back into the community. In these cases, the office will follow the principles of restorative justice, which focuses on meeting the needs of victims and providing opportunities for offenders who are willing to work hard to rehabilitate themselves. The goal is to return the community to the same place it was before the offense was committed.
